ALLERGIC ASTHMA

What is allergic asthma? The most common type of asthma triggered by allergens. These allergens can be present in the product you use or what you eat or air you breathe since your airway is extra sensitive to certain allergens .Once they get into your body your immune system goes into overdrive. Your airway surrounding muscles tenses. Over time, the airways swell up and fill with thick mucus. Which narrows the airway and cause difficulty in breathing.

With the increasing pollution and decreasing air quality have triggered many disease condition of which there has been rise in respiratory diseases and one of the commonest being allergic asthma which can present as shortness of breath ,cough, stuffy nose, redness of eyes etc.

  • Dust mites

  • Dander (skin flakes or hair of animals)

Some other irritants that can cause asthma attack which in normal people don’t cause allergic reaction are:

  • Smoke from crackers, candles, tobacco
  • Cold air
  • Strong chemical odour
  • Dusty rooms

How can you manage?

  • Identify your triggers
  • Avoid area with high pollen or dust in air
  • Check for pet allergies
  • Develop an action plan. (In case of emergency always carry an emergency medication).
  • Start spirometry exercise to increase your lung activity.
